How to Delete Posts

Updated January 14, 2026

Need to remove a post from your schedule? Viraly lets you delete drafts, scheduled posts, and failed posts with a simple confirmation. Published posts cannot be deleted from Viraly since they’re already live on social platforms.

Deleting a Post

To delete a post from your schedule:

  1. Find the post in your calendar or list view
  2. Click the dropdown menu (three dots or chevron icon)
  3. Select Delete (shown in red with trash icon)
  4. Review the confirmation dialog
  5. Click Delete to confirm

The post is permanently removed from your schedule.

Where to Find Delete

The delete option appears in different locations depending on the post status:

Draft Posts

Delete is in the dropdown menu alongside Publish Now, Schedule, and Duplicate options.

Scheduled Posts

Delete is in the dropdown menu alongside Move to Draft and Duplicate options.

Failed Posts

For failed posts (ProcessingFailed or PublishFailed), the Delete button appears as a standalone trash icon next to the Edit button for quick access.

Pending Approval Posts

Only the original requester can delete posts that are pending approval. The Delete option appears in the dropdown menu.

What Can Be Deleted

Status Deletable?
Draft Yes
Scheduled Yes
Pending Approval Yes (requester only)
Processed Yes
Processing Failed Yes
Publish Failed Yes
Published No
Processing No (wait for it to finish)
Publishing No (wait for it to finish)

Why Published Posts Can’t Be Deleted

Once a post is published, it exists on the social media platform. Viraly cannot delete content from external platforms. To remove a published post, you must delete it directly from the social platform (Facebook, Instagram, etc.).

Confirmation Dialog

When you click Delete, a confirmation dialog appears to prevent accidental deletions:

  • Title: “Delete post”
  • Message: “Are you sure you want to delete the post?”
  • Preview: Shows the post you’re about to delete
  • Buttons: Cancel and Delete

Deleting Evergreen Posts

If you’re deleting a post that’s part of an evergreen series (recurring posts), you’ll see an additional warning:

Warning message: “This post is part of an evergreen series. Deleting it will remove all related posts from your account – both scheduled and published.”

This warning appears with an orange banner to ensure you understand that deleting an evergreen root post removes the entire series.

No Undo or Restore

Important: Post deletion is permanent. There is no:

  • Trash or recycle bin
  • Undo option
  • Restore functionality
  • Recovery period

Once you confirm deletion, the post is immediately and permanently removed from your account. Make sure you want to delete before confirming.

Alternative to Deleting

If you’re not sure about deleting, consider:

  • Move to Draft: Saves the post without a schedule
  • Reschedule: Move to a later date if not ready now
  • Duplicate first: Create a copy before deleting

No Bulk Delete

Currently, posts can only be deleted one at a time. There is no bulk delete or multi-select option for posts.
